TL;DR: AI isn't replacing jobs entirely, but it is rapidly merging roles and eliminating the cost of delay in software development. If you aren't adapting, you're falling behind.
How has AI changed software project delivery?
AI has changed software project delivery by drastically reducing the time and headcount required to build complex applications. I just delivered a $65K project without the resources I would have needed just a year back. To put that in perspective, a small $10K web app project took three people 2.5 months to build without AI just a few years back, and even the first ChatGPT model would hallucinate on more than 2,000 lines of code. Today, AI-assisted developers complete tasks up to 55% faster.
So with this bigger project choosing Claude definitely felt unreal. The process involved a lot of planning, improving the plan, getting it approved, and then testing. Guess what was the most time consuming task? It was thinking, planning, and testing. What if you could automate the coding but still had to map out the entire business logic yourself? That is exactly where we are right now.
Improving the scope takes a lot of deep learning about business operations before taking a deeper dive. You really have to take one step back and look at:

Lots of roles that existed just a year ago are now bleeding into each other. Plus, the code is very high quality, since agents have much more context memory to find issues and flag them for review. So if you are a developer reading this or small team building something useful and still manually coding, I'm not sure the world can wait for you. The unrealised cost of ignoring these tools can easily reach $100,000 annually for a small agency. If AI can't do something for you, it likely means you lack the skill to use it and collaborate with the tools to achieve your goal.
